The Stillen collection began with this picture, taken in Morocco at the Sahara desert. It was humid that day, it was going to rain that evening, just when we planned to go to sleep in the dessert. 

 

Because of the humidity the sky was grey instead of dark blue. I had already been staring at the desert all day, taking pictures of camels and Berbers. When I was analyzing what was the reason for the calming atmosphere I noticed the grey sky and sand waves having a soothing effect on me. The composition I made was to reflect that feeling and emphasize silence. 

 

When I returned home and developed my film I reconnected to that feeling when I saw that shot. This was the start for me to keep looking for that feeling in other places to create a series which was later called Stillen
