On the way to Chili, over route 52, you will cross “Salinas Grandes” which is a giant salt lake at an altitude of 4.500 metres above sea level, and having an area of about 4.700 km2. We were looking forward to visiting this site and taking pictures. The vast size and nothingness is a nice subject for a picture. 
“Salt” is a picture in the “Stillen” series where there is an emphasis on composition with a very low horizon in portrait orientation. What you see is the dried salt and a very “blue” sky which turns dark on Black and white film. In the background the mountain range in the south defines the horizon.
